Model - conte and charcoal

Living on the edge! This conte and charcoal sketch was a lot of fun :-)

sculpture - tile

This is my favourite sculpture of this year. Probably because it was an open brief. The only instruction was to start with a thick slab of clay and cut away to end up with a design. I refered to a work by Picasso (blue). The model looks to be rising out of or sinking into the clay. At this stage it is drying until it is ready for the kiln. The mould is still in good shape and therefore I will use it to either make a plaster or cement image next. The size of the tile is a bit larger than an A4 sheet of paper.

Sculpture - plaster portrait

This plaster portrait took a long time. I enjoyed creating the possitive image in clay but the mould and then the final piece in plaster were a disaster. She was removed from the mould with her nose and part of her mouth missing. I have repaired her but I am not happy with the end result. The photo does not show her imperfections. Maybe I should admit at this point that I am a perfectionist and a control freak :-)

Sketch - model

Conte on coloured paper. The model during this session, moved slightly every 15 mins. This took immense concentration and i was quite exhausted by the end of the 3 hour lesson, but the result was pleasing.

Sketch - Lemon Juice Lady

Charcoal drawing/sketch using a composition of lemons which I drew earlier this year.

Model - charcoal

This charcoal life drawing took around 3 hours to complete. I used feathers and soft compound rubber to reach the desired affect.

Sculpture - Torso

My newly found passion - sculpture :-)
This life size torso has been built up in clay. It has been such a fantastic journey so far. Next, I will be making a plaster mould of the torso and then finishing it in Aluminium cement.
Watch this space for the finished product.

Portrait - life drawing

Well it sure has been a while since I last posted some work! Since my eye surgery it has taken time and many frustrating moments to get my confidence back.
So here we go ... this is a sketch in conte done in 3 hrs.
